In Kyoto City, about 1,000 people are hospitalized each year due to heatstroke. Tourists are particularly at risk since they spend a lot of time outdoors.
To ensure that everyone can enjoy Kyoto comfortably in the summer, the “Kyoto Guidelines for Sustainable Tourism” campaign, together with supporting businesses, is distributing heatstroke prevention goods to visitors at designated areas and within the locations participating in the “Kyoto Summer Special Openings” event.
What are the “Kyoto Guidelines for Sustainable Tourism”?
A code of conduct established by Kyoto City and the Kyoto City Tourism Association in order to promote mutual respect, cooperation and sustainability between everyone involved in tourism in Kyoto. Its aim is to help tourists, businesses and citizens work together and preserve Kyoto for the future while protecting its unique beauty and culture.
