Comfortable access to major tourist destinations
To reach Kyoto's sightseeing spots, it is quick and comfortable to first take a train, then change to a bus if necessary, or walk to your destination. Check out the recommended routes and whether coin lockers are available to make your trip a smooth one!
Okazaki
■Access from Kyoto Station to Nanzen-ji Temple area
From Kyoto Station on the Subway Karasuma Line, transfer to the Tozai Line at Karasuma Oike for Keage Station. It takes about 17 minutes from Kyoto Station to Keage Station.
When using JR, get off at Yamashina Station and take the Subway Tozai Line to Keage Station to avoid the congestion at Kyoto Station and travel in comfort.
When you reach the ground level, you will see the "Nejirimanpo" brick tunnel, so walk through it and follow the road.
After a 10-minute walk, you will arrive at the gate of Nanzen-ji Temple.
The area around Nanzen-ji Temple gets very crowded during the tourist season. Using the bus is not recommended.
■Access from Kyoto Station to Heian-jingu Shrine
As above, transfer to the Tozai Line at Karasuma-Oike Station on the Subway Karasuma Line to Higashiyama Station. It takes about 15 minutes from Kyoto Station to Higashiyama Station.
After reaching the ground level of Higashiyama Station, walk a short distance east on Sanjo-dori Street to the Sanjo Jingu-michi intersection.
Turn left onto Jingu-michi where you will see the large torii gate of Heian-jingu Shrine, so keep going.
■Access from Shijo Kawaramachi (Keihan Gion-shijo Station) to Nanzen-ji Temple area
Head for Sanjo Station on the Keihan Railway. Sanjo Station is connected to Sanjo Keihan Station on the Tozai Subway Line by an underground passageway so that you can move around. (Note that the names "Sanjo Station" for the Keihan and ""Sanjo Keihan Station"" for the subway are similar.)
Take the Subway Tozai Line to Keage Station, and when you arrive at Keage Station, go above ground and go through Nejirimanpo in the same way as above.
■Access from Shijo Kawaramachi (Keihan Gion-shijo Station) to Heian-jingu Shrine
From Gion-shijo Station, head one stop away to Sanjo Station, then transfer to the Subway Tozai Line at Sanjo Keihan Station and get off at Higashiyama Station. From then on, access is the same as from Kyoto Station.
City Bus 105 (Rakuraku Okazaki/Ginkaku-ji Temple Line) departing from Kyoto Station bound for the Okazaki area via Shijo Kawaramachi is also operating on weekends and holidays.
