To reach Kyoto's sightseeing spots, it is quick and comfortable to first take a train, then change to a bus if necessary, or walk to your destination. Check out the recommended routes and whether coin lockers are available to make your trip a smooth one!
Kyoto Imperial Palace/Shimogamo
■Access from Kyoto Station
[When heading to the Kyoto Gyoen National Garden]
It takes about 10 minutes to Imadegawa Station on the Subway Karasuma Line. The closest entrance is the Inui Gomon Gate, located just above ground and a short walk south on Karasuma-dori Street.
[When heading to Shimogamo-jinja Shrine]
<Route using the Subway Karasuma Line>
Take the Subway Karasuma Line to Imadegawa Station. Get out of the station and take the city bus No. 203 bound for the east to Kawaramachi Imadegawa.
After getting off at Kawaramachi Imadegawa, head for Demachibashi Bridge, which spans over the Kamogawa Delta. Shimogamo Shrine is located at the end of the Kamogawa Delta.
<Route combining JR and Keihan Railway>
From Kyoto Station, take the JR Nara Line to Tofuku-ji Temple, which is one stop away. Transfer to the Keihan Railway at Tofukuji Station and head for Demachiyanagi Station, the last stop on the northbound line.
Once you get off at Demachiyanagi Station, go to the ground level.
Cross the Kawai Bridge and turn right, looking at the Kamogawa Delta on the west side. It takes about 12 minutes to reach the precincts of Shimogamo-jinja Shrine.
<Route combining subway and city bus>
Take the Subway Karasuma Line to Kitaoji Station. It takes about 13 minutes to arrive.
From the Kitaoji Bus Terminal, take City Bus No. 1, 205 at the red bus stop and get off at the Shimogamo Jinja-mae (Shimogamo-jinja Shrine) stop. It takes about 8 minutes to arrive.
■Access from Shijo Kawaramachi (Kyoto Kawaramachi Station/Keihan Gion-shijo Station)
[When heading to the Kyoto Gyoen National Garden]
<Route combining Hankyu Railway and subway>
Take the Hankyu to Karasuma Station (connected to Shijo Station on the subway), one stop away, or walk to Shijo Station on the subway.
From Shijo Station, take the Subway Karasuma Line to Imadegawa Station. It takes about 4 minutes to arrive. The closest entrance is the Inui Gomon Gate, located just above ground and a short walk south on Karasuma-dori Street.
<Route using Keihan Railway>
From Gion-shijo Station, head to Jingu-Marutamachi Station. The ride takes about 5 minutes. Note that limited express trains do not stop at Jingu-Marutamachi Station.
From Jingu-Marutamachi Station, walk west along Marutamachi-dori Street. It takes about 12 minutes to reach the Tominokoji Entrance.
[When heading to Shimogamo-jinja Shrine]
From Gion-shijo Station, head to the last stop, Demachiyanagi Station. It's about a 7 minute ride.
The route from Demachiyanagi Station is the same as the ""route combining JR and Keihan Railway"" access from Kyoto Station above. It takes about 22 minutes to arrive.
