
Joshoko-ji Temple is a Zen Buddhist temple of the Rinzai sect of Tenryu-ji School. It was originally built in the 14th century by Emperor Kogon who retired here after becoming a Buddhist monk. It is famous for its Kokonoe-zakura cherry blossoms (natural treasure), said to have been planted by the Cloistered Emperor Kogon, as well as the Sakon-no-sakura chery blossoms, donated from the Kyoto Imperial Palace.
