[PR] Enjoy Kyoto with Kids

Kyoto is a city brimming with dazzling culture and history that can make for the trip of a lifetime. Since you’ve traveled all this way, you want everyone to get the most out of their trip! Our first tip for doing so is to allow the grown-ups a little bit of time for themselves. While you’re in Kyoto, you may want to enjoy some more relaxed moments, or maybe try some zen meditation in a quiet temple. In the meantime, with Kyoto with Kids Club, your children can enjoy an exciting day full of Japanese culture!

A Day with Kyoto with Kids Club

Kyoto with Kids Club not only looks after children while parents are out traveling in the city, but also allows kids to experience Japanese culture through play. Kyoto with Kids Club programs are put together by staff with backgrounds in early childhood education, so you can be sure that every child will be well taken care of and entertained.
Here’s an idea of what a sample program with Kyoto with Kids Club will look like.

10:00 a.m. Meet-Up and Self-Introductions

Because Kyoto with Kids Club is located in a kid-friendly space central Kyoto, it’s easy to access both from hotels and sightseeing locations in the city. Participants from various countries will introduce themselves to one another before we start. Local Kyoto children also sometimes join our programs, too, so your children will have a chance to make some local playmates while they’re here!

10:15 a.m. Japanese Crafts

The first Kids Club activity is craft-making! Depending on the day, kids will make different items, like uchiwa—a kind of round Japanese paper fan—and decorate it with watercolors. Of course, they’re encouraged to take their creations home to display!

11:30 a.m. Explore the Neighborhood and/or Play Japanese Games

Participants will head out to explore a nearby temple or shrine. On some days, they may even get to enjoy a scavenger hunt dressed in kimono or as ninjas!

12:15 p.m. Lunch Time

After a morning full of play, it’s the long-anticipated lunchtime. Children eat their own packed lunches, but on some days, we may even decorate and eat sushi rolls!

1:00 p.m. Mini Japanese Lesson and Origami/ Japanese games

Children will learn how to write their names in Japanese, and write their names on beautiful Japanese paper. They will also learn some basic Japanese greetings, and some words that may come in handy to use during their vacation in Japan!
Until it’s time to say goodbye, participating kids will get to take part in different sorts of traditional Japanese play, including origami, which is well-known across the world, and other games.

While Your Children Are Here

While your children are with Kyoto with Kids Club, parents are free to head out on their own adventures that may be less kid-friendly, whether that’s enjoying a traditional tea ceremony, a full-course kaiseki meal, or some shopping. Kyoto with Kids Club can help you make a bit of time for yourself on your vacation.

What Participants Say

Just a few comments from parents who signed up for Kyoto with Kids Club include:
“It was the kids’ highlight in Kyoto. They loved all the activities and we loved having 4 hours to ourselves so we could discover Kyoto on bikes.”
“My kids got to play with other kids from other countries, and that ended up being a really nice part of our trip. They said they want to come back!”
When you’re visiting from abroad, you may have a lot of questions and worries about how easy it will be to visit Kyoto with your family, and what kind of things you’ll be able to do. Much of the staff at Kyoto with Kids club are local parents, or have experience in early childhood education, so parents can feel free to ask them anything. Kyoto With Kids also posts fun information for families traveling to Kyoto on its blog, so be sure to take a look!
*Children ages 4 and up can participate in the program. Siblings of participating children that are younger than 4 years may also join. Please inquire.
