Hinamatsuri Festival (March 3rd)
Hinamatsuri Festival - also known as Girl's Day - is one of Japan's most widely celebrated events. Most families with girls display a set of special dolls called hina-ningyo at their homes from the beginning of spring (February 2nd) until the day of this festival, praying for their well-being and happiness.
A number of traditional rituals such as the Nagashi-bina (doll-flowing) ceremony at Shimogamo-jinja and Kamigamo-jinja Shrines as well as the "Doll Festival" dances at Hokyo-ji Temple are held annually on March 3rd.
