The dance performances by the maiko and geiko add splendour to Kyoto’s spring. 

The performances will be held in four of the traditional maiko and geiko quarters of Kyoto (kagai). Gion Kobu, Miyagawacho, Pontocho and Kamishichiken will be holding their annual performances at the kaburenjo theatres in the quarters and at other venues from late March to May. 

It is a fascinating experience because maikos and geikos are usually hard to see, but during the performances their beautiful dances and music are easily enjoyable. 

Among the performances, the Miyako Odori will be  celebrating its 150th anniversary since it was performed at the Kyoto Expo in 1872.
