Eastern Kyoto City 
Yamashina is the eastern gateway to Kyoto and is rich in nature, surrounded by beautiful mountains, such as those in the Higashiyama mountain range. The area is attractive to history lovers for its many Paleolithic ruins dating back about 25,000 years and temples with various legends. The town is also known for its Kiyomizu-yaki ceramics, Kyoto folding fans, and other handicrafts.
