Gozan Okuribi Bonfires is one of the largest religious events in Kyoto, held annually on August 16. Five mountains surrounding the city are lit up at night with giant bonfires called “okuribi” one after another, creating various characters and shapes.
The spirits of the ancestors are believed to return to their old home between August 13th and 16th. Gozan Okuribi Bonfires are held in order to help them return to heaven.

8월 16일 오쿠리비가 열리는 산에는 안전과 모닥불 행사 중단을 방지하기 위해 출입이 금지됩니다. *이 날 출입이 금지된 다이몬지산을 제외하고, 이 행사에 참여하는 다른 산은 연중 출입이 금지됩니다.
2. 강둑에서 오쿠리비 모닥불 구경하기
수위가 높을 때는 강둑 출입이 금지될 수 있습니다. 현장 보안 요원의 지시를 따라주시기 바랍니다.
또한 수위에 관계없이 밤에는 강둑에 들어가지 않는 것이 좋습니다. 강둑이 어두워서 넘어지는 등 사고의 위험이 있을 수 있습니다.

매년 많은 사람들이 고잔 오쿠리비 의식을 보러 옵니다. 과밀과 과도한 더위는 열사병으로 이어질 수 있으므로, 집이나 숙소에서 편안하게 의식을 관람하고 싶으신 분들은 생중계를 시청하실 것을 권장합니다.
