Historic Sites
Kyoto City Office
The main plaza in front of this office (built in 1927) provides a relaxed, leisurely atmosphere. The Western-style government building incorporates elements of Eastern design.
The City of Kyoto is working hard to attract foreign tourists from all over the world. The Kyoto City office is now open on weekdays from 8:30 to 17:00. The main plaza, located near the Museum of Kyoto, the Nishiki Food Market, Pontocho, and Gion, is lovely and a convenient place to rest.
Once a month, a flea market is held in the plaza, which is also available for rent as an event hall. This is also an ideal location for enjoying the floats and procession during the Gion-Matsuri and Jidai-Matsuri Festivals, respectively. In winter, the area is illuminated and the streets brim with light.
