The origin of the temple dates back to the 8th century,
and protects the northern part of Kyoto city. Its main deity is said to have the power to create all things in the universe. This place is also famous for the legend of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, a 12th century warrior, who trained with Tengu in his childhood. (Tengu are legendary demons that are said to live in Mt.Kurama). Yuki Shrine, located on the premises, enshrines a sacred tree that is said to be 800 years old.
●Kifune Jinja Shrine:
It is enshrining the deity of water, who is in charge of rainfall and stopping rain. Known as a power spot for love success, the fortune-telling using the sacred water that springs from the rocks on the shrine grounds is very popular.

Tips

The observation train "Kirara" operates to enjoy the scenery of fresh green and autumn leaves, and visitors can enjoy the travel time. A hiking trail connects Kuramadera Temple and Kifune Shrine. The "Kino-ne-michi", a power spot where the roots of cedar trees cover the surface of the ground, is popular. In summer, each restaurant along the Kibune River offers meals at seats set up on the river.
