Kinmata was established in 1801 and has continued for seven generations of the founding family. Its kyomachiya (traditional Kyoto tradesman's house) constructed in the Meiji era is registered as a Japan's tangible cultural asset. It serves time-honored Kyo Kaiseki cuisine made with fresh seafood and vegetables only enjoyed in Kyoto. The owner himself does the cooking, and the dishes are of assured quality.
