Experience Kyoto's iconic Aoi Matsuri parade will be held on May 15th. You can watch ancient Kyoto before your very eyes! The Aoi Matsuri is one of Kyoto's Three Great Festivals, along with the Jidai and Gion Matsuri festivals. The Aoi Matsuri takes its name from the Japanese wild ginger leaves, symbol of protection, which are draped over the participants, human and animal alike, in the parade. Following the route from the old Imperial Palace Gardens to the paired Kamo Shrines, this festival traces its roots back to the Heian period, and bring the ancient styles back to life for a vibrant day!
