Kodai-ji Temple

Following the death of Shogun Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1606, Hideyoshi's wife established this temple with the assistance of Tokugawa Ieyasu (1542-1616). In addition to the view of the garden from the priest's chambers, displays of Hideyoshi artifacts and attributes make up some of the highlights of this temple. Lacquer work from the Momoyama Period (1573-1603) decorated with brilliant gold flecked ornaments make the Hideyoshi mausoleum a must-see for any visitor.

Fushimi-jo Castle and front garden was relocated and rebuilt as a sub-temple where Nene spent her last years. The north garden was built in a specific Karesansui (rock garden) style and is a good representation of Momoyama Period gardens.
