Hiking Course

Once the spring blossoms scatter, we are left to enjoy the vibrant greenery and mountains covered in fresh grass. This is the perfect time for a relaxing hike. The Takao area boasts miles and miles of magnificent mountains and is home to Jingo-ji Temple and other World Heritage sites. Takao is also known as a popular area for the filming of Japanese period dramas. It's the perfect place for hiking and visiting temples.

Kozan-ji Temple

Among the temple's many treasures, there is a replica of "Choju Jinbutsu Giga," ("The Scrolls of Frolicking Animals and Humans") famous picture scrolls featuring frogs, monkeys, birds, and rabbits engaged in worldly pursuits. Sometimes described as Japan's first comic, this brush painted scroll satirizes human foibles.

Jingo-ji Temple

There are 360 stone steps leading up to the temple gate so take your time getting to the top. From the viewing platform, visitors throw unglazed earthenware to ward off evil.

Kiyotaki

If you head down the eastern sea footpath that hugs the Kiyotaki River from Takao, you will eventually reach Arashiyama.

Foot Bath at Arashiyama Station

On your way back to the center of Kyoto, why not rest your feet in the foot bath at Arashiyama Station? Warming every part from your ankles to your toes, a ten-minute dip in the bath is said to bring the best result.
