Enjoy your meal with the sound of the river, and the touch of a cool breeze. Dining on riverside platforms is a quintessential summertime experience in Kyoto, where its charms can be enjoyed both in the mountains and within the city center.
There is a long history of yuka riverside dining along the Kamo-gawa River, which is said to have begun in the Momoyama Period (1583-1598). During this summer event, some 100 traditional ryotei restaurants and ryokan will open their businesses on these "yuka" platforms along the western shore of the Kamo-gawa River from Nijo to Gojo.
