Kyoto, Higashiyama Hanatouro 2020

This early spring event is rich with Kyoto lyricism and elegance. LED lights will illuminate a 5 kilometer walking path, from Kiyomizu-dera Temple in the south to Maruyama-koen Park, through Yasaka Shrine up to Shoren-in Temple in the north. These lights will color the flowers of ikebana arrangements decorating the path, creating a uniquely Kyoto nighttime scene, both mysterious and atmospheric. Nearby shrines and temples will also be holding limited-time illumination events and special openings.

Various Events
●ROHM co. produces Hanatouro (The “Pathway of Light and Blossoms")
Lanterns decorate the 5 km walking path that leads to the foothills of Higashiyama Mountain. From the north, the path goes through Shoren-in Temple and Maruyama Park, and then through Yasaka Shrine to Kiyomizu-dera Temple in the south. Enjoy the striking charm of the streets of Kyoto: faint lights that beautify the store fronts of Monzen-machi, soft lights that reflect off the stone pavement, lights swaying amongst the trees, white and earthen walls. The abundant ikebana arrangements that decorate the promenade together with the paper lanterns, invite visitors to an enchanting world.

●Ikebana Promenade
In cooperation with the Kyoto Ikebana Association, some large flower arrangements will be displayed along the Hanatouro pathway.

●Contemporary Ikebana Exhibits
A grand flower arrangement competition will be held in cooperation with the Kyoto Ikebana Association, in Maruyama Park. Some flower arrangements will be displayed in the early and late stages of the festival.

●Dedicatory Dance by Apprentice Geisha
Geisha from the five entertainment areas in Kyoto will perform a dedicatory dance at Yasaka Shrine. Taking the stage at Kagura Hall, the spectacular dancing will enliven and brighten this event.

●Fire Watch and Ohayashi Music Group
Local school children will play wooden clappers, bells, and drums, and sing children’s songs about being careful of fire while walking through the Hanatouro pathway.
