Kamihichiken District Kotobuki-kai Traditional Dances

In autumn, each of Kyoto’s kagai (geiko and maiko districts) come alive with excitement for their annual dance performances. Practices begin in spring, and autumn performances in each kagai mark the end of a year. These captivating dances are exquisitely performed and are popular amongst connoisseurs and regular viewers alike.
The Kotobuki-kai is the autumn dance performance from the Kamihichiken District, in which its geiko and maiko perform the results of their practice. Classical epic songs accompanied by shamisen (“kamigata-uta” and “naga-uta”) will be performed in this event, favored for its refinement.
