Exhibition of 80 Meter Shibori-zome Dyed Scroll of Animals Doing Sports

The Heian Period "Choju Jinbutsu Giga" animal picture scrolls are a National Treasure, formerly in possession of Kyoto's Kodai-ji Temple (now stored at the National Museum), and are even described as the world's "oldest manga." The humorous actions of the various animals that appear in the image are a delight for viewers. Today, as the curtain is about to rise on the Tokyo Olympics, the monkey, frog, rabbit, and other animals in this image appear enjoying sports in the forest together. The large finished scroll is on display in its finished form.
