The Kyoto State Guest House which opened to the public last year, is now offering English guided tours for the first time.
The Kyoto State Guest House is a place where foreign dignitaries are welcomed and introduced to Japanese culture. It is built as a modern interpretation of traditional architecture and interior design and houses many works of art created by great artisans and living national treasures.

Nijo-jo Castle is now offering English guided tours for no extra fee. Participants are chosen on a first come first serve basis so make sure to arrive on time. Visitors will be shown around the castle in a 90-minute, as well as surrounding areas and traditional artisans’ ateliers in a 180-minute premium tour.
Place: Inside the North Gate at Nijo-jo Castle
Time: Regular Tour: February 6 – February 17, 2017; Premium Tour: February 20 – 24, 2017, Monday to Friday at 12:45 pm

Both tours will be guided by the City of Kyoto Visitors Host, translator guides trained and specialized in Kyoto. These guides are officially certified by the City of Kyoto and have undergone special training including an extensive curriculum of history, culture and traditional arts as well as guiding and communication skills.
