"Autumn Moon Viewing Tea Ceremony Party" at Kodai-ji Temple
February 25th is the memorial day of Michizane Sugawara, a Heian-period court officer and deity of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine who loved plum flowers very much. A special ceremony will be held to console his spirit on this day. A large-scale outdoor tea ceremony party will also be held, based on a similar party held here by Hideyoshi Toyotomi, one of the most powerful samurai lords in the 16th century. Geiko and maiko from the nearby Kamishichiken district will serve bowls of tea for visitors. Baika-sai will tell the beginning of spring to Kyoto.
The shrine's treasury will be open to the public for viewing on the same day, as well a large monthly market.
